Dr. Michele Henson, who grew up primarily in the Southeast, is excited to bring her enthusiasm for both cutting-edge research as well as excellent patient care to Live Oak Allergy, Asthma & Immunology. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The University of Georgia and attended medical school at Duke University School of Medicine.

She is both a Pediatrician and Internist, having completed a dual residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Vanderbilt University. At Vanderbilt, she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, an honor which recognizes excellence in scholarship and leadership in displaying the highest ideals in the profession of medicine. She returned to Duke for a highly competitive Allergy, Asthma and Immunology fellowship, where she spent 3 years under the direction of several world-renowned leaders in food allergy and immunodeficiency. During her fellowship, she participated in clinical research on the treatment of pediatric food allergy using oral immunotherapy.

Dr. Henson has been a leader in bringing the latest research to her patients and fully embodies the philosophy “from the bench to the bedside.”

 

She also conducted research aimed at identifying the genetic mechanisms behind Common Variable Immune Deficiency. She has published several review articles and book chapters on food allergy, allergic proctocolitis and food protein-induced enterocolitis syndrome. During her fellowship at Duke, Dr. Henson also obtained a Master’s of Health Sciences in Clinical Research degree. Dr. Henson particularly enjoys treating food allergies, seasonal/pollen allergies, atopic dermatitis, and primary immunodeficiencies.

Dr. Henson has worked with her patients with food allergies and many have undergone successful food challenges, the gold standard in food allergy diagnosis.

Dr. Henson is married to her high school sweetheart and has two beautiful children who make her smile every day. She enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, gardening and watching college football. She is very excited to be a part of the Pooler and Brunswick communities and looks forward to continuing to build many long-lasting relationships with her patients and their families.

 

Heather N. Bumgardener, MSN, AGPCNP-BC

Heather N. Bumgardner

A native of Brunswick, Ga., Heather Bumgardner, certified Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in nursing from Armstrong Atlantic State University. Heather practices internal and occupational medicine, and palliative care, and says her passion is providing compassionate care and education for those in need. Prior to joining Live Oak Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, Heather worked as a registered nurse in a hospital setting.

Outside of work, she enjoys reading, going to the movies and spending time with family. Married with two sons, Pierce and Ethan, she resides with her family, including two pets, General and Max, near Savannah.
